Following the public hearing of Case Study 11 into the Tardun, Bindoon, Clontarf and Castledare facilities, the Christian Brothers undertook to re-examine cases of former students that had been “settled on demonstrably unjust and unreasonably low terms”.
To 24 May 2016 the order received 164 requests for re-examination of past settled matters relating to the WA institutions.
Of these, 147 have been finalised and new settlements have been reached.
This accounts for 91% of requests for resettlements since May 2014.
This latest information updates the five previous public statements since 2014 outlining progress on re-examination after the public hearings in Perth.
Counselling and support is also offered and provided as part of the re-examination process.
The Christian Brothers will continue to work on the remaining re-examination matters and we are confident of making more progress over coming months.
The Christian Brothers Oceania encourage any person who suffered abuse at any of our facilities, to contact the Professional Standards Office in Melbourne on (03) 8359 0134.
