PATRICK J. McINERNEY
 
Fr Patrick McInerney is a Columban missionary priest from South Australia.
 
Ordained in 1978, he was assigned to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the next 20 years, where he was involved in a variety of ministries - parish, teaching, administration, leadership, and Christian-Muslim Relations.
 
In the mid-eighties he completed a three-year licentiate degree at the Pontifical Institute for the Study of Arabic and Islamics in Rome.
 
He returned to Australia in 2000 and completed a major thesis entitled Method in Reconciling Differences between Religions for his Masters in Theology from the Melbourne College of Divinity.
 
He is a full-time staff member of the Columban Mission Institute's Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations in Strathfield, and heads the Institute's activities focussed on Mission Studies. He is the coordinator of Missiology at the Catholic Institute of Sydney and lectures in Islam and Inter-religious Dialogue.
 
He is currently completing his PhD thesis Modelling the Method: A Lonergan Approach to Christian Responsibility in Interreligious Relations at the Australian Catholic University.
 
Fr Patrick is a member of the Australian Catholic Council for Ecumenism and Interreligious Relations (ACCEIR) (which advises the Australian Bishops Commission on Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Relations), and he is a board member of the Australian Catholic University's Asia-Pacific Centre for Inter-religious Dialogue (APCID).
 
He also attends the state meetings of the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP). He attends interfaith and multi-faith conferences, and gives talks and lectures on Islam, Christian-Muslim Relations and inter-religious relations to a wide variety of audiences.
